Anyone who pans for gold hopes to be rewarded by the glitter of colors in the fine material collected in the bottom of the pan. Although the exercise and outdoor activity experienced in prospecting are rewarding, there are few thrills comparable to finding gold!  The question is, what do you need to get started?

 

I will answer that by saying, it all depends.  If you are looking to just be a casual gold miner or are on a low budget, a simple gold panning kit will do.  If you are more serious, then there are a lot more advanced and costly options for your mining experience.

 

For a beginner getting set up a freqent question is often "what types of equipment will I need to start gold mining?".

 

There are Gold Dredges, which are placer mining machines that extract gold from sand, gravel and dirt using water and usually suction (vacuum).

 

Gold Drywashers,  are used to separate gold from sand and dirt with pulsations of air coming up through a porous cloth type medium.

 

Gold Highbanker Machines, also known as Hibankers, or Gold Power Sluices, use a pump to flow water down a sluice to simulate the natural action of a stream or river.

Gold Metal detectors are also useful for gold prospecting. While most decent detectors will find some gold, metal detectors specifically designed for finding gold deposits will find much more!

 

Anyone, whether weekend hobbiest or full time stakeholder, who pans for gold hopes to be rewarded by the yellow glimmer in the fine material collected in the bottom of the pan.  Although the opportunity to be in the elements, enjoying the seasons unfolding, the beauty of nature and the physical challenges are all rewarding, there are few thrills comparable to finding gold!
